Stork haven in Alcalá: Organic wooden tower optimizes nesting heights, fostering biodiversity and ethical bird observation.

In a swift and focused two-week timeframe, our challenge was to create a haven for storks in the charming setting of Alcalá de Henares. The culmination is an organic wooden structure strategically placed along the riverbanks, resembling a vertebrated tower that gracefully ascends beyond the surrounding trees.

Delving into the intricate behaviors of storks, our observation revealed a compelling insight: storks consistently choose the highest point in their surroundings for nesting. This observation became the guiding principle of our design, ensuring that the structure stands as the optimal and natural nesting spot for these majestic birds. The heights of the tower were meticulously calibrated not just for storks but to cater to an array of bird species, fostering biodiversity and creating unique habitats at different elevations.

At the lower levels, visitors can ascend a modest height, offering a respectful observation point without disrupting the intricate and natural life cycles of these avian residents. This project harmoniously blends ecological responsibility with the beauty of design, creating a sanctuary that not only caters to the storks' intrinsic instincts but also elevates the overall ecological richness of the area.

With careful consideration for the well-being of the birds, the structure allows users to climb only a few meters at the lower levels for observation. This ensures a respectful distance, providing a valuable opportunity for individuals to appreciate and learn about the natural behaviors of these avian inhabitants.
